NTPC Boiler Explosion in Raebareli: Had Power Plant Been Saffron, The Tragedy May Not Have Happened, Says Suspended JDU Leader Ali Anwar
Lucknow, Nov 2: Suspended Janata Dal United (JDU) leader Ali Anwar has yet again made a controversial statement, this time on the boiler explosion at National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Plant in Unchahar in Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli. Anwar, while reacting on the NTPC boiler blast said that the boiler been saffron, it wouldn’t have exploded.
“They have saffronised everything in the state. Had the NTPC Power Plant also been saffron, the tragedy may not have been have happened,” Anwar said.
At least 26 people have died while 66 have been injured in the boiler explosion at NTPC’s Unchahar Plant on Wednesday. Rescue operations are underway as many are still feared trapped inside. Ambulances are on the spot as more injured employees are being rescued from the plant in Raebareli.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the accident. The Prime Minister has also approved Rs 50,000 each for those injured.
What caused the NTPC Boiler Explosion?
Reports say that carbon blockage in the ash pipe of the NTPC plant led to the blast. Reports also say there was a pile of coal close to the plant. Employees reportedly say that they had raised the concern with the higher authorities but no action was taken yet.
A Magisterial inquiry has been initiated into the boiler explosion.
“Twenty-two casualties till now, 66 people injured. Rescue Operations by NDRF are underway. We’ve constituted team of Magistrate and a Technical Officer, which will conduct a magisterial inquiry into the incident,” said Rae Bareli DM Sanjay Kumar.
Rahul Gandhi Meets Injured in Raebareli
Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi halted his Gujarat Assembly Election Campaign and rushed to Raebareli, the Lok Sabha constituency of his mother and party President Sonia Gandhi.
“Due to the unfortunate NTPC accident, I will visit Rae Bareli tomorrow morning. Will join Gujarat Navsarjan Yatra in the afternoon,” he tweeted.
Conveying her deepest condolences to the families of the bereaved, Sonia Gandhi also urged upon the authorities to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured.
