Yoga has been included in the curriculum of all schools, making it a compulsory part of the physical education course in schools.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday stated that this move is for the benefit of all people.
“I have not invented Yoga, it has been an ongoing practice in this world for some time now. It is been given by our saints for the benefit of people. For a healthy body and mind, Yoga was given by our saints.
We have said that in make Yoga compulsory in all govt schools in Uttar Pradesh. Yoga will be part of the curriculum in schools here,” said Yogi Adityanath, in an interview to DD News.
According to a statement released by the UP government, Adityanath chaired a meeting of education department officials a few days ago where he gave out directions to the state officials to bring out a Yoga education programme in every school in the state.
“The Chief Minister directed that ‘Rani Laxmibai Aatmaraskha Kaaryakram’ (self-defence programme) and ‘Yog Shiksha
Kaaryakram’ (Yoga education programme) would be compulsory,” the statement released on April 3 said.
The state government has also decided that mandatory self-defence training will be provided to girl students in these schools.
